TEXT field improvement

The text drawing tool is difficult to use as it refreshes often (as in every 5-10 seconds) and erases the text I have typed thus far. Also, would be very helpful if when adding the text drawing tool onto the screen if the cursor focus would automatically be active at the first position of the text entry field rather than be required to reposition my cursor and click to start typing. Thanks.
